Jared came home from Sunday school yesterday having studied the immutability of God. As we ate our nutritious Sunday-after-church-donut lunch with his littlest sister loudly chatting nonstop, he made an astute pun: "Lilly is immutable!"
Seriously, this girl only stops talking when she's asleep!

The Lamest Blogger Ever
Yes, this is my new official title... So who starts a brand new blog with lots of fanfare, and then neglects to ever write in it? Yes, me.
If you look at the title of the blog itself, you'll see why.
No, I'm not making excuses, just giving an explanation.
But really, there is no excuse. Just because we have been spending days at the beach...
...and enjoying field day at Anna's school....
...and working hard on an AWANA grand prix car (a dolphin car that won second place in the design category, never mind that it had a really hard time making it to the finish line)...
...and spending time with friends...
...and working hard on a cardboard boat for Jared's 7th grade cardboard boat regatta...
...and going on field trips...
...and having parties at school...
...and playing at home...
...and going to swim meets (and dropping lots of time off of Anna's best times--go girl!)...
...and going to band and orchestra concerts and recitals...
...and celebrating the end of Lilly's first year of Cubbies...
....and celebrating our 20th Anniversary...
...and studying Air War College, doing housework and yardwork, deciding which school Anna should attend next year, helping the kids with homework, helping the kids navigate friendships and mentoring them in right choices, going to book club, serving in ministry and teaching capacities at church, reaching out to friends and neighbors with meals and offers of help when needed, and...
...well, still, all of this really gives me no reason to not be blogging. In fact, one would hope that with some much fun stuff in our lives, I'd be blogging a lot so we could share it with you, my few and faithful readers. (and now, I fear, there are fewer since I have been The Lamest Blogger Ever).
One of the main reasons I have not been blogging (in addition to all of my, ahem, excuses above), is that we still have NO NEWS from CHOP on Lilly's surgery.
We were there at the end of March for all of her radiology studies, and I had hoped to have some idea within a few weeks of those visits of what the surgical team was thinking. But here we are, more than 2 months later, and--despite my many e-mails and phone calls--we have heard not a peep. Except maybe 2 or 3 times they said "oh, we're meeting this week....we'll call you after we've met." and then no phone call.
Once again I find myself in a place of waiting and trusting that the Lord is sovereign over the timing of all things, even over the apparent unresponsiveness of the world's foremost expert on Lilly's condition and the medical technology and methodology that can help her.
As I see summer vacation hurtling towards us full force (less than 2 weeks of school left for my teen and tween; my tot is already done), knowing that I have purposely left the summer as a blank slate (presuming we would be traveling to Philly for a life-changing surgery), I am feeling frustrated that LIlly's doctors can't at least pick up the phone and give us a rough idea of a timeline. I don't want my kids to miss out on participating in summer activities available here, so I am starting to sign them up for things (especially those that don't entail a huge financial loss if we have to back out should we hear from CHOP). I am also starting to think about going ahead and planning a trip home to visit family in the northest regardless of what is happening with CHOP...perhaps we can simply schedule an office visit with the dr. to discuss her case rather than waiting on what seems to me to be a simple phone call.
Not only am I battling frustration with the wait because I have no idea what the summer will entail, but also because I have fears for Lilly that waiting unnecessarily could have long-term impact on her lung function and lessen her chances of living a long life independent of external oxygen or even a ventilator later in life. The delay in hearing any word at all from her doctors has me wondering if her scoliosis is so complex that the right path is not clear to them. But I just wish they would tell me that, if that's the case.
In any event, I am finding myself once again in the place of waiting, and in the daily struggle to do my best to be faithful in the small things each day as we look ahead at bigger things to come.
Thanks for reading, and hopefully I can slowly redeem myself from the title of Lamest Blogger Ever.
